We often take for granted that we’ll be protected from threats like contaminated food, hazardous products, dirty air and water, and predatory financial schemes. But many of the consumer and safety protections we rely on are now threatened due to the recent Supreme Court decision that undermines federal agencies’ ability to protect the public.
In a landmark ruling, the court gutted a longstanding legal doctrine that has helped federal agencies carry out their responsibilities under the law and issue sensible rules—ranging from insider trading restrictions to fuel economy standards that reduce pollution and save you money at the pump.
Thats why we're inviting consumers across the country to a conversation between David Doniger, the NRDC staff member who argued the original case which set the Chevron doctrine, and Brian Vines, CR’s Deputy Editor, to sort out just what’s included in these rulings and their potential impact. Then, we'll dive deep on what this means for the issues we care most about, and how we can all work make sure that we're protected.
